Champion bull rider Tarr Olson thought getting injured and losing his rodeo career would be the biggest challenge he'd face. That was before he met his neighbor—the beautiful but ice-cold veterinarian who wants nothing to do with him.
Briar Prescott has spent years building walls around herself while caring for the animals at the farm that's been her sanctuary. After having her heart shattered by three different rodeo cowboys and losing her entire career, she's sworn off anything to do with the rodeo or cowboys.
She has a dog, and that's enough.
But Tarr is too charming for his own good, and though she enjoyed their first date months ago, she put him solidly in the frenemy zone.
But when he shows up on Thanksgiving morning and refuses to let her celebrate the holiday alone, Briar is tired of fighting her feelings for the tall, dark, delicious cowboy.
And she goes to dinner, actually enjoys herself, and accepts a Black Friday morning breakfast date with Tarr to boot.
As winter descends on Ivory Peaks, Tarr finds himself without adequate housing. When Briar finds out—and the first snowstorm of the year arrives—she insists he come stay with her.
She has an extra bedroom...until the power goes out. Then she and Tarr have to share a couch and a roaring fire to survive the night.
And as she lays in Tarr's arms, the walls around Briar's life begin to thaw. But can Tarr prove he's different from the other cowboys who broke her heart? And will Briar let down her guard long enough to give this second chance at love the green light before it's too late?

Briar has been wounded. Not only physically in her rodeo accident and when the she was attacked by the coyotes, but also mentally by her friends and especially her parents that did not support her. Tarr thought his life would be over when he had to leave the rodeo because of an accident. But he has found new life on Deerfield Ranch where his best friend trains future rodeo champions. When Tarr meets Briar he is determined to get through her defenses and to show her that she is loveable. What follows is an inspirational story of healing, commitment, romance, and love. Once again Liz Isaacson brings you right into the family. It was great to catch up on all the Hammonds!
Liz really knows how to write clean, sweet, romance with cowboys who steal our hearts. Her cowboys are strong but gentle with animals and people. They are loving, honest, trustworthy, kind, caring and patient. I love Tarr and how he cares for Briar even though she is thorny and doesn’t feel lovable. Tarr has learned a lot about himself since coming to Ivory Peaks to heal from a rodeo injury but when he moves to Deerfield with Tuck and Bobby Jo his life begins to really take shape. This book is a wonderful journey for Tarr and Briar. We see the healing Briar needs and the reason for it. Wonderful book that revisits the Hammond Family Farm, sees a wedding and two babies and a whole lot of changes for the families and the farms. Loved every minute of it!
Engaging sweet romance with all the feels. The characters are real and believable with flaws and struggles that have to be overcome in order to put the past in the past and to look to the future. Catching up with characters from previous books is always a plus. Ab—so—lute—ly—love—d—it.
This one was special because I understood where Tarr and Briar were coming from. There were a few parts of the story I could relate to such as when God spoke to Briar and told her He saw her, and always had and would never abandon her. God has done just that in my life as well many times. When God told Tarr to keep reaching out to his brother with whom he was estranged with. He said that you can't chose for them, and can't change them, but the other person gets to decide what to do with that. (location 3891 chapter 34) The book was amazingly written and heartfelt. The author's books keep getting better and better!
Another fantastic story in this series. It’s a grumpy/sunshine relationship but it is Briar who is quite thorny and Tarr is so sweet and happy. He is so willing to do anything for her and loves her and wants to be a couple, but she is unsure. I loved how patient he was with her, so steady and loving. I liked how they worked together with God’s help to find their HEA. Another thing I love about Liz’s books is getting glances at other members of the family and see how things change for them. I devoured this story, loved everything about it and am excited for the next book in this series.
